The Sea Of Hebrides is a northern sector of sea which comprises a widespread and diverse archipelago off the Northwest coast of Scotland.
The group of islands can be divided into two main groups:
Inner Hebrides, including Skye, Mull, Islay, Jura, Staffa and the Small Isles.
Outer Hebrides, including Lewis and Harris, Berneray, North Uist, South Uist, Barra and St Kilda
Scotland's temperate waters are home to a variety of fish species, notably salmon, trout, skate and rays. Other wildlife animals that can be found in the Hebrides Sea include Pilot Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Seals and the porpoise. Basking sharks are also frequent Scottish Waters, as well as many small sharks Dogfish and mid-size sharks such as the Porbeagle and the Blue Shark.
The sea is warmed by the Gulf Stream from the Atlantic, and given its northerly latitude it is much warmer than areas on similar latitudes, for example Labrador in Canada - where icebergs are a common feature in winter.
